Wyethia amplexicaulis

Beautiful Balsamroot lookalike with a complex relationship to humans.

A sunny little native plant with sunflower-like blooms and pointed leaves that resemble Arrowleaf Balsamroot. Unlike Balsamroot, the leaves are shiny and waxy looking and have leaves along the stems as well as at the base. It has a complex ethnobotanical history. Native Americans have used it as a sweeetner. Hunters don't like the way it crunches underfoot, which prevents them from sneaking up on prey. And ranchers see it as an invasive, even though it's native, because it doesn't provide good food source for cattle. Grows to about 1' x 1' and prefers open meadows with clayey soil.

Contains chaff, and love. 45 seeds

Seeds were sustainably wildcrafted in the Great Basin by Kyle and friends at Native-Seed Company.

Directions: Direct seed in fall. Or, store in fridge in wet sand for 3 months before direct seeding in the spring.
