Allium sativum

"Kingsland Softneck is an artichoke type that my (Kelly Kingsland) mom bought in a Safeway grocery store in 1970, and my family has grown out ever since. It stores incredibly well--for nearly a year, has 10 large cloves per bulb, and for a softneck is incredibly easy to peel. We have sold it in braids at our booth at the farmers market, and it has a great reputation in these parts. Over the years, many farmers have bought seed from us. A lot of the softneck sold regionally is this!"

Storage instructions: Make sure to keep your garlic in a brown bag in a cool, dark, dry place until you are ready to plant it. 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit is the ideal storage temperature. Air must be able to circulate freely around the bag. Do not store garlic in the refrigerator.

Sowing instructions: Garlic is best sown in the fall after the first light frost of the season. Bulbs should not be separated into cloves until just before planting. Sow with the point where the cloves attached to the bulb pointed down. We recommend mulching your garlic bed with a light layer of leaves to help with weed suppression and overwintering.
