Tomato, Martino's Roma

  • $4.00

Description

Solanum lycopersicum

A delightful, early roma on a compact plant. Perfect for sauces and drying.

This lovely small roma (1"x2" fruits) packs a fantastic flavor and defies conventional roma wisdom with extremely compact plants that can work well in pots and small gardens. Makes wonderful sundried tomatoes.

Tomatoes are native to northwestern South America and by at least 500 BC they had been domesticated and were being cultivated as far north as modern-day Mexico, enjoyed by Aztec and other civilizations. They spread to Europe and the Caribbean through the Spanish colonizers, where they became staple parts of the food culture in many European countries as well, including Italy where Italians bred the romas that have defined their cuisine since colonization. Their circuitous journey brought them from the Western hemisphere to the Eastern and back again!
