Marigold, Idaho Sunshine

Description

Tagetes patula

18" tall with double orange and yellow flowers. Great companion plant!

The Idaho sun has warmed these cheerful companions for many years, where they've been growing and joyfully adapting to our place. I don't remember what variety we started with, but now they're mostly yellow-orange, with beautiful 1" flowers absolutely covering their 18-24" tall bodies. A wonderful addition to any garden—plant to deter many pests and add year-long color! Marigolds are native to the Americas and are known as the flower of the dead in modern day Mexico. Upon encountering the Aztecs, the Spanish colonizers returned to Europe with the flowers where they spread and they have since become an important part of cultural celebrations in India and Nepal. Open-pollinated.

Seeds grown by Quel Ranch Farm in Garden City, ID, Drunken Sailor Farm in Boise, Idaho and Plum Shed Seeds in Sandpoint, Idaho.

Directions: Direct seed in late spring or start indoors and transplant outside after frost. Plants gently reseed.
